Racing Round the World with Sustrans

BikeIt Virtual Round the World Race route

140 Sustrans Bike It schools are competing to virtually cycle around the world following my route! The winning school will win £1000 for their Bike It activities and there are also lots of regional prizes to be won. Bike It is an exciting and successful Sustrans project; more than 40 Bike It Officers round the country help pupils be able to cycle to school. Over the next four weeks Bike It will be aiming to get over 20,000 children cycling to and from school, competing with each other along my route round the world. Miles are added on each time a pupil, parent or staff member cycles to school. Each school has a notice board with a large map where the pupils and school community can follow the school’s progress each day.
I am visiting some of the schools to encourage them, and others are using a DVD that Sustrans and I have made challenging them to complete the virtual bike race (VBR). The VBR is part of the many activities the Bike It project runs, with selected schools receiving support throughout the academic year to encourage more cyclists.

Good luck to ALL Bike It schools across the country!

Thanks for your support, this is our second national Virtual bike race and it is really capturing the imaginations of our schools. I’ve just started to get the first weeks results in from my schools here in London and they are already generating loads of cycle journeys.
Ps. icicle bogies is areal winner!
