The Fred Whitton Challenge

A 112 mile, mountainous cycle ride

The Fred Whitton Challenge is an iconic, 112-mile cycle challenge over all the major passes of the Lake District National Park. It’s beautiful, difficult, simple, but not easy…
Most people ride it in one day, but I turned it into an overnight #microadventure by packing my bivvy bag and sleeping high in the fells.
I rode the route on the Trek 720 “road-tuned adventure tourer” for their #DrivenbyAdventure campaign.
All in all, this was a wonderful experience that I enjoyed very much.
I’md definitely like to ride the challenge “properly” one year.

  1. What a wonderful movie, Al, with so many brilliant points. Tight editing, perfect length, great shots and witty, honest, unpretentious narrating. I love it!

What kind of bike do you use for this kind of adventures?
    Hybrid touring bikes, Mountain bikes?
What kind of bike you recommend I buy?
