I’mve been asked to share details of an interesting bike race. A race around the world!
What?
To encourage 2012’s world record racers to start from at the same place and time with riders tagged by GPS devices, an 18,000 mile Global Bicycle Race is being organised. It will start on 18th February, 2012. Competitors will carry tracking devices so that they can be “followed”, live, online. The tracking will be accompanied by reports from the riders who can ride any route they choose round the world.
Where?
The start/finish will be in Greenwich Park, London – on the Prime Meridian.
When?
The winner will finish just before the start of the 2012 Olympics (27th July).
How?
Based on Guinness World Record’s rules the riders will head east or west for 18,000 miles and pass through two antipodal points, trying not only to win the race but also to claim the Guinness World Record currently held by Vin Cox (163 days).
Who?
The challenges and cultural diversity which the participants will encounter will capture the imagination of many, whilst the massive physical achievements will be inspirational.

Hi Al (and everyone else)
Sorry news from the event has been a bit sparse but there will be much more coming soon.
We’d love to see as many as possible at the start line on 18th Feb – Al – perhaps youd be available to give a few words of encouragement to the riders?
David
