I spoke at a conference this morning then climbed into my car for the very long and tedious drive home.
I joined millions of other people, dressed in suits, bored and disgruntled, trundling homewards in heavy traffic.
And then, my Sat Nav came to the rescue.
If you are not accustomed to using the Sat Nav in your car for plotting tiny microadventures within the numb routine of normal life, then begin now!
Every time the Sat Nav shows me that I’mm about to cross over a river I crane my neck and eagerly try to peer down at the water from the bridge as I zoom across it. Could you swim down there? Does it look worth remembering to return and paddle here one day?
I made a quick U-turn, parked the car, and jumped out to investigate.
The river looked good.
Moments later, I was out of my suit, into my birthday suit, and in the water.
Boom! I was refreshed, rejuvenated and amused.
I emerged from the river chuckling and happy.
I walked barefoot back through the field to the car, and continued my journey home, my day a little bit brighter than it was before.
Try it. Jump in a river.
I’m totally going to be looking for rivers on my satnav from now on, can’t promise I’ll be in a suit though.
