A Night of Adventure

Following my visit to the work of Hope and Homes for Children in Sierra Leone I decided to arrange a fund-raising event. The “Night of Adventure” was a great success and there are calls for a repeat sometime soon. I hope you will come along. If you would like to be informed when the next Adventurers’ Pecha Kucha Night is organised simply add your email address here:

Rather than the normal format of one long lecture, this charity evening is a bit different.

FIFTEEN superb speakers from across the spectrum of expeditions, adventure and travel will talk about their experiences.

In February the subjects ranged from rowing oceans, climbing Everest, walking and cycling across continents, crossing ice caps, trekking to the North Pole (and South Pole) all the way to flying cars, climbing Kilimanjaro in a wheelchair and spending six months living in a tree house. The next event will be similarly varied and inspiring.

Each one is an amazing story. But the twist is that each speaker is allowed just 20 slides. And each slide scrolls on automatically after just 20 seconds! It is a very challenging format for the speakers, and great fun for the audience to watch.
This format, originally called “Pecha Kucha” in Japan, makes for a high-paced, varied, original evening.

The talks will be embedded on this site here. If any of them move you to add a few pounds to our fundraising tally that would be fantastic. There is a donation widget below.

What a lovely idea. I am a big supporter of HHC. And how nice to drink a couple of beers over the evening.
I think everyone should eat dinner at the event – make a night of it.

  4. Hey Al, saw you’re going to be in Sierra Leone next week. Don’t know what your schedule’s like but we’re leaving Freetown tomorrow and on our way to the wonderful-sounding Tiwai Island (http://www.tiwaiisland.org/) in the east of the country. Should be there from Wednesday-ish for a week-ish, if you fancy hanging out with 11 species of primates and a couple of lesser spotted cyclists… 🙂 [+232 88762284]

  7. Hi Al,

Really enjoyed the event, thanks for putting it on and introducing us to a few more tales of epic travels and sheer lunacy. We hope to join those ranks one day.

Also, Hope and Homes for children is an excellent cause and I hope that they were able to raise a ton of cash from the evening.

Looking forwards to RGS on the 7th.

    Cheers
