I’mve always dreamed of hopping onto a freight train in America, rumbling thousands of miles from coast to coast, reading Kerouac and Huck Finn, hiding from cartoonish guards and learning the ropes from vagabonds.
So I’mve been a bit engrossed by this website full of all sorts of useful tips for the budding train hopper.
“Sure, you can pay Amtrak to haul you across the country with a bunch of blue-haired old ladies. Or you can grow some balls and hop a train.”
Funny you posted this. I remember reading this site absolutely years ago and have been dreaming occasionally of the same thing ever since!
Don’t want to put a dampener on this but remember that W.H.Davies lost a foot trying to ‘hop’ a train. :0)
Don’t want to put a dampener on this but remember that W.H.Davies lost a foot trying to ‘hop’ a train. The Super Tramp is an excellent read :0)
It would be nice for a day or two, but I would definitely get bored afterwards. I took the transmongolia train from Moscow to Ulanbataar and if it wasn’t for vodka and the Russians, the 5 days on the train would have been just little bit too much :).
