New Video from Danny Macaskill

Trick cyclist Danny Macaskill has released a new video. It’s pretty fabulous.

But I definitely prefer the original video. I love the fact he was not famous then. He was just a guy doing what he loved, filmed by a guy doing what he loved. That it sparked the imagination of 21,000,000 YouTube viewers is just a bonus really. Plus it has an awesome soundtrack.
The new video is almost too good, too professional. I guess I’mm more moved by “cult classics, not bestsellers“. Which one do you prefer? Why?

And, shamelessly tagging on the back of 21 million hits, have you had a chance yet to watch my Iceland effort?

I freaking love the original. It introduced me to BOH, actually. This one is obvi sponsored by RedBull. It’s a good gig if you can get it, I guess.

  6. So does anyone prefer the new video which presumably had more cash and more ‘expertise’ involved?
If not then it provides great hope for the rest of us scrabbling away at the bottom of the dung heap!

I like the original one because it is a bit rough; shows the person as someone obsessed with this one crazy passion (anywhere any time), it moves in a way that speaks of joy and freedom from all of the life us other ant-like folk partake upon. The second is beautiful, and who knows, maybe it is the same cameraman having learnt more, but it is about the trip and not the journey. To be fair though, I don’t begrudge him his mobile home or the sponsorship behind him. Pre-Youtube, the whole thing wouldn’t be possible. That’s a bit of serendipity for you.

the first one is more kind of underground and less rehearsed looking – it looks technically a bit more difficult too. the second is much cleaner and a bit contrived. total respect for both anyway. Just goes to show what you can do with a bike when you take the panniers off. 3rd one’s a bit strange though, poor chap seems to have forgotten his bike.. The stress of fame I guess :O)
