Where Art and Adventure meet

So I built a shed. I’mm quite proud of it. It’s been a ridiculously satisfying project – very good both for the soul and my productivity. It only ran massively over budget, so that’s alright.

I moved in and settled down to work.

And that’s when I realised that I had no idea how to turn what felt like working in an empty, cold, fully-clothed sterile pine sauna into the kind of evocative inspiration-generators that you see daily on Cabin Porn (a website suitable for work, except that it may just make you quit your job).

I know I should start filling my shed with little mementoes from my life, but I’mve spent my adult life deliberately not collecting clutter. Letters from the Queen, gifts from tribesmen – they all just go in the bin / charity shop. So I turned to the internet to try to find some ‘arty’ stuff to help my shed feel a little homely. I was delighted to discover all sorts of really talented folk operating at the overlap between adventure and art. I thought I’md share some of their work here as I’mm sure they would all appreciate a few more sales to help them save up for their next adventure / new bike…

Maptia’s manifesto is also very good and very apt:

And of course the original Holstee Life manifesto: http://holstee.com/pages/manifesto

I also love the “manifesto” Jonny posted above! Cheerful typo and an almost “picturesque” excerpt from Whitmans writing and wisdom…

I would also add Chris’ artwork to the list: http://www.dynamoworks.co.uk/
Some excellent stuff with handmade high quality prints made in Edinburgh and inspiring quotes related to cycling, highly recommended!!

  8. On a different angle, ensuring you have a standing workspace as well as a sitting one. When your creativity doesn’t flow while sitting at your desk, try some work standing – you’d be amazed at how the ideas suddenly start to flow when you aren’t sitting!

Some lovely cycling-related prints here http://www.zeitgeistimages.co.uk/ I bought this one http://www.zeitgeistimages.co.uk/le-pain-638-p.asp because it reminds me of cycle touring in France with my boyfriend and we always seemed to have a baguette strapped to the back of one or the other of our bikes 🙂

  13. Loads of new ones here I’ve not seen before. Love it!

I’m quite partial to these and the various other versions of ‘eat sleep ride repeat’ posters… Might also look good in the shed if the others are starting to look a bit dated 🙂
