This weekend is the Ultra Trail de Mont Blanc ultramarathon.
You run a quick lap of Mont Blanc, non-stop, through 3 countries, covering 166km and 9400m of ascent, all within 46 hours. Strewth!
To commemorate this marvellous madness, today’s Photo Friday comes from one of last year’s contestants.
It’s not the most perfectly composed landscape shot you will ever see but, given that it’s taken “on the hoof” by some fool who’s trying to run up, down and round all these peaks, I think it holds its own for atmosphere and story-telling!
Tomo ended his email to me thus,
“ps – Back to driving a desk now, although I did bivvy out in the Peak District last night for the sheer hell of it. A night under the stars is more effective than any commercial battery re-charger.”
Hear! Hear!
If you’d like to get involved with Photo Friday please drop me a line with your Flickr image and the story behind the photo.
Finally, good luck to my mate Henry who’s running the race this year to raise funds for the Tuareg people after he cycled through West Africa last year. (Sponsor him here).
Or, if you’re a bit more 2007 than 2009 you could do me a big favour by posting this on Facebook. Just click the logo:
I was in Chamonix for the Ultra Trail last year, it looked horrendous. I swear some of the contestants legs had turned to rubber by the end, and looked like hell, fair play!!
