I’mm delighted to have Photo Friday this week from Georgia, one of my favourite countries. A country in need of some good PR after recent events.
Thanks, Tom for sharing this. Here’s what Tom says about Georgia:
“This was taken in the mountains of northern Georgia after a pretty tough day of cycling up the dirt roads. The altitude here is almost 3,000m above sea level.
“Contrary to popular belief, Georgia isn’t a war zone. There have been occasional localised flare-ups in Abkhazia and South Ossetia for decades. None of this need detract the traveller. The people are fabulously hospitable, the food is some of the best in the world and the scenery is spectacular!
“The Greater Caucasus mountains in the north are a rare luxury for trekkers and mountain-bikers – all the natural beauty you could wish for, and you’re likely to have the place to yourself. Mountain-biking in the country is just beginning to take off. If you’re interested, Georiders is one of the first guiding ventures to be set up in the country.”
After much to-ing and fro-ing Andy and I came to the conclusion that he was probably the photographer of this image, only with my camera – memory fades! He’s got some great photos, check them out at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ride-earth
