My main advice if you want to get rich is that you are reading the wrong blog. I hope that everything you read on this site is testament to my disinterest in getting rich (although I would love to buy a sea-kayak one day).
However I am interested in running a good business, entrepreneurship and making the most of my potential. I enjoy reading occasional business books (innocent’s was great, the Patagonia one also), to glean snippets of wisdom about thinking differently, persevering stubbornly and audaciously, and so on.
The latest I have read is the naffly-titled How to Get Rich by Felix Dennis. I would not have touched it with a bargepole had I not been recommended it by a friend. There’s lots of good stuff in there about having bold ideas then taking the tiny first steps required, getting off your backside and actually beginning, being willing to accept the risk of failure and ridicule, and the pleasures of fine champagne and high-class hookers.
Here is a nice nugget from the book that sums it up pretty well and is relevant to readers of this blog as well as those who really do want to get rich. It’s called ‘The Upside-Down Pyramid for Getting Rich’.
- Commit or don’t commit. No half-measures.
- Cut loose from all negative influences.
- Choose the right mountain [i.e. a project you care about and that has freshness and potential]
- Fear nothing.
- Start now.
- Go!
